"You can't reach for anything new if your hands are still full of yesterday's stuff."
Louise Smith
professional organizer & decluttering geek
While I've always been "organized," I inherited the idea that you should hold onto everything because, you know, someday you might need it.
Then I emptied my parents' overstuffed house and realized that they (and I) had been prioritizing storing stuff over having the space to do enjoyable activities.
That's when I finally understood the importance of decluttering...and even turned it into a profession so I could help others unclutter their homes and create space for their lives.
"Clutter is nothing more than postponed decisions."
Barbara Hemphill

"Decluttering is infinitely easier when you think of it as deciding what to keep, rather than deciding what to throw away."
Francine Jay
Unlike programs where you watch videos and then work alone on a decluttering task, Drop-in & Declutter is a live 60-minute decluttering session run by professional organizer Susan McCarthy of A Less Cluttered Life.
When you register for an offered day and time, you'll receive a Zoom link to the session. You log into the class and join a small group of others who are working on their own decluttering task.
Registering for a session encourages you to stay accountable to your goals.
You should plan to be on camera, with your device directed on the area you are decluttering.
You'll need Internet service, a device with a camera that you can bring to the location you are decluttering, and you should feel comfortable logging into and using Zoom.
For the privacy of participants, sessions are not recorded.
This isn't a class in the sense that you'll sit and listen to me talk about decluttering. Nor is this a question-and-answer session.
Instead, this is an opportunity for you to actively work on a decluttering task and ask questions you have specific to this task.
You will get stuff done!
In this focused hour, you can learn new skills and systems for decluttering and staying organized. You can ask questions and share ideas that can help others.
If you've been procrastinating on a project, registering for a session can help you break through a roadblock.
Plan to keep your camera on and angled on you and the small area you are decluttering.
One of the benefits of this type of program is the camaraderie of being part of a group of people who are all decluttering. This keeps you focused and motivated to declutter.
