I get it. It's difficult just getting to the point where you realize, "I can't keep putting stuff in boxes and rearranging things. I need to get rid of some of this stuff."
Then you start looking around at everything and wonder where to start and how to decide what to keep and what to let go.
I was there. I learned from my parents that you should hold onto everything "just because." But the more stuff I had, the more stress I felt. When I started to declutter, I'll admit I felt a bit queasy. So many doubts!
Learning to let go of what wasn't important to me helped me see what was. Decluttering my stuff even led me to shift my career from teacher to professional organizer!
I appreciate that decluttering isn't just a matter of walking into a room and filling trash bags. To clear the clutter, we'll also address the thoughts and feelings that surround our possessions.
Coaching is limited to 10 clients at a time.
Unlimited coaching by email
7-days of Focus
We'll work together to create an action plan for your home while you engage in pre-decluttering or working toward some quick wins. Or you can focus on a specific project (clothing, the kitchen, etc.)
7-days to ask unlimited decluttering and organizing questions by email - start when you register
$5.58 a day - more affordable than hiring a professional organizer to come to your house at $40-$200 an hour for a 3 or 4 hour block.
Free digital download of the guide, Distraction-free Decluttering.
You can email me an unlimited number of questions during your session.
If you feel a photograph would clarify the situation, you can attach a photo.
For clarity, you may want to limit one question to an email. This will make it easier for me to answer your question and will help you refer to answers in the emails with ease.
I will not respond to texts, messages through social media, or phone calls.
Who will answer my emails?
You'll be corresponding with Susan McCarthy, professional organizer. Because of time zone differences and other things on my schedule, you'll get a response within 24 hours - usually much sooner.
I don't have a staff and I do give careful thought while responding to each email, so it can take time.
Will you tell me what I have to do or what I must get rid of?
Nope. I'll give you advice that you can follow or not. If you feel that I misunderstand your situation, please follow up and clarify. You make all the final decisions about the actions you take, which include getting rid of, donating, selling, giving away, or keeping any items.
I'm offering decluttering and organizing advice. I cannot appraise items or provide medical, financial, or legal advice.
When does my coaching start?
After you enroll in the coaching by email program, you will receive an automated welcome email. You can start sending me your questions after that. I do not send out reminders that ask you to participate.
The clock starts on the day you sign up for the program, either for 7- or 30-days.
What can you help me with?
I can help you decide where to start decluttering your home when you have multiple spaces to choose from.
I can help you create a plan for decluttering your home.
I can give suggestions for decluttering and organizing a specific room.
I can suggest organizing tools...but my first recommendation will be to declutter. Organized clutter is still clutter.
I can recommend systems and routines for maintaining the order you've created. We can work together to take general suggestions and advice and make it work for your specific situation.
How do I know that declutter coaching by email will work for me?
You should be mentally, emotionally, and physically able to declutter the spaces you want to organize. If you are unable to do some of the physical work, you'll want to find people who can help haul stuff for you, while respecting that you will make your own decisions about what is to be done with these things.
This is do-it-yourself decluttering supported by guidance from a professional organizer.
How do I know if declutter coaching by email isn't for me?
If you want tips for organizing your home but you don't want to get rid of anything, I probably won't be able to help you.
I won't tell you how to coerce your significant other or kids (whether child or adult) into decluttering. I also won't recommend that you toss someone else's belongings. Plan on decluttering your stuff and (perhaps) leading other family members by example.
Also, I give functional organizing suggestions. I do not have a high organizing aesthetic - I'll call for practical over pretty. (Although I do think a decluttered space will naturally look nicer and better highlight the things you have on display.)
How much decluttering can I get done during my time in the coaching program?
There are three factors that affect what you can get done:
How many possessions to sort through. Remember, you aren't just handling the things you're getting rid of, you will handle everything so you can decide what to keep and what to let go.
How much time you can give to decluttering. This doesn't have to be the same amount of time each day.
How quickly you can make decisions. Having a clear sense of what you want from your home can keep you on track.
What's the investment?
At this time, you can sign up for 7- or 30-days of coaching. You do not have to start at the beginning of the week or month, however, you should know that you have the time and attention for decluttering when you sign up.
The coaching does not automatically renew. You are welcome to sign up for as many sessions as you wish. Because you control the length of time we work together, you can take a break by not signing up for declutter coaching when you know your schedule will be busier.
What's your return policy?
If you complete your session with me and you’re not happy, you get a refund.
However, if you enroll in the coaching program but forget to use it or do not email questions, you will not quality for a refund. Unused coaching does not carry forward.
If I feel that we are not a good match or that I lack the expertise to help you in your particular situation, I will issue a refund. This is not a reflection on your situation as being unusual or beyond hope; it just means that I don't have the experience to match your needs.
